Apple’s free classes can be expensive

I am the new owner of an Apple iPhone. The 6+ models that at first hold seems to be about as huge as the brick-sized handheld Motorola mobile phones that came out in the 1970s. Okay, not really that big but measure this baby and you’ll find it is as long as a C-Note, about six inches, and roughly half that width. But I digress; size isn’t everything …until it is.

One of the wonderful things about spending a small fortune and purchasing any Apple product is all of the free classes offered. In addition to the Genius bar, Apple offers all sorts of 1-hour educational sessions about how to use any of their products from iPhones to the iWatch, etc. And that’s a very good thing. The trouble is, where the classes are offered.

My Apple store is located in The Gardens Mall in Palm Beach Gardens, Fl. Know that mall and you know it’s not a discount center. No Wall-Mart there. Discount clothiers either. Shopping at it is for the well heeled who still have plenty of disposable cash and enjoy   wares offered at places like Tourneau, Saks Fifth Avenue and Louis Vuitton. And yes, while you’ll find a Macy’s and Sears in this center, it was Bloomingdale’s that got the best of me.

As it turns out, Bloomies is steps away from the Apple store. And I have to walk through it as I park in the lot outside of one of its entrances.

I’ve taken two free iPhone classes so far and learned a couple of important things.
The first, and most important for the mature user to remember is that they are pretty indestructible. That means, no you won’t break them by repeatedly pushing and pecking away at their face no matter how much pressure you put into your push. According to my instructors that’s the most frequent question asked by us golden oldies. Additionally, Apple’s teachers say that there are only two ways to wreck these phones: drop them or spill liquid on them.  That’s it.

Back to the free class part of this blog.

To date, the two hours—or 120 minutes– worth of iPhone lessons has cost me close to $2 a minute. Turns out that walk through Bloomingdale’s to the Apple free classes costs plenty.

Hello Budsie…

If it weren’t for the hopes and dreams of entrepreneurs and small business owners, there wouldn’t be much money talk going on in America, business on Wall Street or an audience for the wildly popular television show “Shark Tank”.

If you’re like me, you’re a fan of that program and would love to know what it really takes to get on that program.  Fortunately, I didn’t have to look very far to find someone who had, in fact, appeared before The Sharks.

Alex Furmansky is the founder of Budsies. The name of the company is a play on the word “buddy” and Budsies are cute custom-made plush toys individually created and designed based upon the art work you submit to them……..
